Crane Humidifier

My nose is almost always congested because of allergic rhinitis. I was told several times that a humidifier might help me breathe at time (when I'm having difficulty). But for some reason, I always stalled on purchasing one and didn't believe on humidifiers.

Then I saw the humidifiers from Crane.
Okay, so Crane is known for humidifiers that have designs appealing to children. Well, I'm a kid at heart. LOL! When I saw Crane's train humidifier, I knew it's the humidifier we're supposed to have at home.

As luck would have it, we were given a Crane train humidifier. Technically, it's not mine. It's a gift for my daughter.

We started using this in our room when my daughter was born. A lot of people also told me a humidifier is a big help to babies when it comes to ease of breathing.

As months passed by, I noticed that my nose is less congested in the morning. The train humidifier has a cool mist and doesn't require a filter. We use purified water to fill its tank (1 gallon) that can last for 24 hours. We only use it at night though since it's inside our bedroom so we are able to maximise the purified water.

My husband has a travel humidifier which we used prior to having the train humidifier. The travel humidifier has a filter and comes with a cup (to put the water in).

We love Crane humidifiers so much that we are thinking of purchasing their digital humidifier for our living room. And then another humidifier for the master's bedroom once our daughter cn already sleep by herself in her room. But next time na when there's budget!

Crane humidifier has a lot of designs but the train design retails for PhP3,499.75.

Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump

Breastfeeding changed how my mind is wired. It's all I think of now. LOL.

One of the things I received before I gave birth was this HaaKaa Silicone Breast Pump. A lot of breastfeeding mothers recommend this as a must-have as if catches your let-down (milk) on the breast that you aren't feeding on.

Panasonic Facial Ionic Steamer*

I cut down on skin care products during my pregnancy for safety measures since it might have a side effect on the baby. And while I was lucky that I didn't break out during my pregnancy, I still felt that my skin around the nose area got a bit dry.

Now that the baby is out, I can use my skin care products again. But to amp up my skin care routine, Panasonic Beauty sent me one of their beauty gadgets for a new skin care experience!

Nursing in Public Made Easy with Poncho Baby!

It takes a while to get used to breastfeeding your baby. It takes a while to find comfort even in your own home when breastfeeding. So, Imagine the trouble of having to nurse/breastfeed in public when your baby cries from hunger!

I tried to do all the pre-natal and post-natal shopping because I gave birth. I thought it would be better that way so at least I'm already prepared for "battle". But one of the things that I wasn't able to purchase before D Day was a nursing cover. I only had one good aesthetic reason why: I never liked the design and style of the nursing covers I have seen.

But all that changed when I saw Poncho Baby at The Parenting Emporium. Right then and there, I know it was the perfect nursing cover for me.

Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream

If there's one thing I learned about motherhood, it's the fact that breastfeeding is not as easy as it looks. No one really told me how difficult it could be to breastfeed a baby. You have to be mentally, emotionally, and physically prepared for this thing!

I've been suffering from sore and cracked nipples since the first day I started breastfeeding. I didn't know how to breastfeed and baby didn't know how to latch properly. And really, how do you teach a newborn to latch correctly anyway?!

I searched for tips and tricks on how to "cure" cracked and sore nipples. While the majority is saying that applying your own breastmilk on your nipples and let it air dry is the number 1 cure, I still felt the need to purchase a nipple cream made of Lanolin.

There are a lot of brands out there but I chose Lansing because it's bigger than most of the ones I've seen. It's also what the book What to Expect When You're Expecting recommends.

As per packaging, this is totally safe and hypoallergenic and doesn't need to be removed before breastfeeding - totally great cos I could be really lazy at times! It doesn't have any scent, too.

I've been using this for a month now and I'm really happy with it. I feel that it helped to alleviate my sore nipples. Baby doesn't seem to  be allergic to the cream at all!

Lansinoh HPA Lanolin is available at Mothercare for Php829.00 and at Baby Mama fir Php650.00.

Using LBC Shipping Cart to Shop Abroad

how to use LBC Shipping Cart

All right, in case it isn't obvious by now - I like shopping to be convenient. When I say convenient, I highly factor in availability of items, safety, and time against the price tag. Of course, I still have my thrifty moments but most of the time, I'd rather spend (granted I can afford it).

I have been on the look out for the perfect nursing cover. I have been looking since last year but all the nursing covers I have seen in malls and online didn't cut it for me. When I went to The Parenting Emporium, I chanced upon Poncho Baby and it was like at first sight. The nautical feel of their organic nursing cover gave it away. I checked the price tag and it was a whopping PhP4,500! What. I tried to look for other brands with a similar style but I couldn't find any. I told myself that Poncho Baby nursing cover is the only one for me. I decided to purchase online but I somewhat delayed it because I thought utilising the nursing cover could wait until my mom comes back from the states. But certain circumstances made me leave the house with baby in tow and I'm left with makeshift nursing covers aka oversized muslins. It was difficult to use not to mention it isn't fashion friendly.

So, I decided to finally purchase a Poncho Baby nursing cover and use a forwarding service to get the item immediately.

What opted me to use Shipping Cart is the fact that membership is free. Yes, signing up is free. I've seen one forwarding service that has an annual membership of USD20. Truth be told, I was expecting to use Shipping Cart just this one time for the nursing cover since my parents are always in the states anyway and I probably won't need items in a rush.

Signing up at ShippingCart.com is easy. After signing up, you will be given a unique US address and telephone number that you can use to have your purchased items delivered there. Let's face it, there are a lot of online stores that only ship within the US territory. And if ever they do international shipping, the shipping fee is costly and you'd wait at least a month plus you also risk your items being taxed by Customs. We all know nothing good goes down when your items are taxed by Customs.

To maximise my LBC Shipping Cart, I also purchased a few items from Essence Makeup. I got the ones that are not available in Manila. I was a bit worried when I purchased online because it was my first time using LBC Shipping Cart and I wasn't sure how fast their service is. Yes, it's one thing to read reviews about them but it's another thing when you finally use the service yourself. It's like there's always a 50% risk that you might not get your items - that kind of feeling.

I ordered on a weekend (US time) so my orders took almost a week to arrive at my US address provided by Shipping Cart. What's good about Shipping Cart is that they notify you via email once they have received your package. With my experience, Poncho Baby and Essence delivered my items on a weekend (or was it a Monday) and it took Shipping Cart about 2 days to confirm and inform me of my package. I was able to track since Poncho Baby and Essence also provided tracking numbers. But yeh, they took a week to deliver. Shipping Cart took 3 days to inform me they already have screened my packages. They opened it for inspection to make sure that what I'm shipping to the Philippines are not prohibited items. They took a picture for me to see. When I received this email, I immediately logged in to my account and had the items shipped to Manila. That was last March 18. I got an email from them informing me that estimated date of arrival is April 2. Last March 21, I got an other email informing me that my package is on its way to Manila. On March 25, I was surprised to see an LBC Box at home! The package arrived one week in advance!

I chose Air Cargo rather than Sea Cargo because I needed the nursing cover right away. Air Cargo takes about 2 weeks (I think) and Sea Cargo can take up to 45 days. The price range is not that off tangent so I highly suggest you just go for the Air Cargo.

Okay, here's the catch - unless you know exactly the measurements of the items you ordered then you can decide from there whether you want to use their service or not. Shipping Cart has a calculator on their website so you can estimate how much you'd pay for shipping fee (from US to Manila). They compute based on weight (per pound) and size, whichever is higher. I knew the items I ordered wouldn't be that bulky and heavy so I was confident that the shipping fee would be fairy priced. Plus, I have this peace of mind that the items I ordered are authentic. Everything that I purchased was for personal use anyway so I don't mind paying extra for the Essence makeup (since they appear to be more expensive due to shipping fee). I mean, SAs in Sm Store keep telling me that the Essence highlighter has been phased out - which is entirely not true!

The total shipping amount for the items I bought was PhP1,078 but I was able to use a coupon code so there was a 15% discount of the shipping fee. I only paid PhP923 after discount. What's nice about Shipping Cart is that they deliver the items straight to your doorstep. No need to pick up the package at the post office. Best of all, no additional tax to be paid at Customs!

You can opt to pay the shipping fee via credit card or cash on delivery. For online purchases, use either a credit card or debit card.

I'm very happy with my Shipping Cart experience! This definitely won't be my last time using their service!

Mustela Maternité Skin Care Line

Women go through a lot of changes emotionally and physically when they are pregnant. Linea Nigra comes out. The belly starts to have stretch marks as it expands. A lot say it's hereditary - if you mom had it, you'd have it too. Others go through pregnancy with ZERO stretch marks. Others (like me) suffer from itchy stretch marks and we go crazy trying different products to minimise those zebra lines on our bellies.

I decided to use Mustela Maternité because it's practically everywhere (at least on the places I go to). Scent also matters to me a lot and I love that Mustela has a very gentle scent that doesn't hurt nostrils. No coconut scent whatsoever.

I used the Mustela Maternité Stretch Marks Prevention Cream (PhP1,490) on my belly mostly to prevent stretch marks. The consistency is just like any other body lotion that isn't sticky.

The product that I was most interested to try was the Mustela Maternité Light Legs Gel. My legs were always tired and I was hopeful that the minty feeling of this gel will make me legs feel better. One liner review: It didn't. On the real tho, it was practically a useless product. You can definitely skip this product.

I used the Mustela Maternité Soothing Moisturizing Balm on my shoulder and legs at times. When I almost run out of the stretch marks cream, I used this on my belly as well just to keep my belly moisturised. This is the biggest product among the three and my tube is still not halfway empty. A little product goes a long way. This might be a nice product to have but any moisturiser (without whitening properties) can be used by any pregnant woman.

When I ran out of the stretch marks cream, I decided to try the Mustela Maternité Stretch Marks Care Oil (PhP1,050). It has a mild scent that isn't bothersome.

But yes, truth be told this skin care line did not work for me at all. I started getting stretch marks on my 28th week even with religious application of these products. Quite frustrating because I highly believed in these products as influencers have raved about these - mm-hmm. I was really hopeful I wouldn't have that much stretch marks. But oh well. Part of motherhood.

To all moms out there, what stretch marks prevention products worked for you? I'd love to know!

Taking Care of Yourself Down There With GynePro*

Feminine wash is part of my shower routine. I've never been particular about brands as they all seem to be the same for me.

However, GynePro turned out to be a game changer. I admit that I wasn't very excited (to the moon and back) to use this the first time I received it. Tried it after a few months and all I could say was "why didn't I try this sooner?"

GynePro is more gentle on the skin. I know this because I've been having UTI for the last 10 months and when I made the switch to GynePro, my lab results turned out to be negative. And this was the only thing I changed in my routine. My water intake was more or less the same.

The scent of this feminine wash is very gentle. too. No itchy feeling whatsoever. The formula is liquidy like water unlike most feminine wash that happen to be thicker in consistency like liquid soap. It says on the box to use this for not more than 14 days straight so what I do is take a break for about 2 days and use it again. This feminine wash is even recommended for post-partum care.

GynePro (150mL) retails for PhP130 per bottle.

Pond’s Launches New & Improved Formulas For The Modern Pinay*

Are you ready for a beautiful change? If you think about your skincare rituals from 5 to 10 years ago, the basics were able to keep your skin clear and well-hydrated. But if you take a closer look at our environment now and analyze what our skin faces each day—like pollution, harsher UV rays, and stress—you’ll realize that these basics are no longer enough. Today’s Filipina is in need of modern-day skincare solutions that can keep up with her ever-evolving skin needs and on-the-go lifestyle. “This is why the Pond’s Institute’s recent innovations revolved around developing and improving our formulas,” says Apples Aberin, Unilever Head of PR. “Pond’s wants to evolve with the modern-day Filipina. We want to show her that there is no need to be afraid of the ever-changing environment, because Pond’s is rising up to the challenge and changing with the times.”

Everything Beautiful Begins With Change
With the NEW Pond’s formulations, the power to change your skin into something beautiful is always in your hands. The secret lies in looking for the ingredients and technology that your complexion needs at each stage of your life. Take a look at the NEW and improved Pond’s Acne Clear, Pond’s White Beauty, and Pond’s Age Miracle ranges, especially formulated for today’s modern woman.

For The Blooming Teen
She’s stepping out into the world on her own, and of course, with her besties. The skin challenge? Pimples, oily skin, and stubborn blemishes caused by stress, hormones, and pollution makes her feel self-conscious.

Sofia Andres for Pond'sHer Pond’s Solution: Pond’s Acne Clear is clinically proven to clear acne in just three days. It contains the breakthrough Lock & Clear Technology, which is the first in the world to lock bacteria cells and clear it from the inside for beautiful, acne-clear skin. “Having clear skin helps me feel confident, so I always use the Pond’s Acne Clear Facial Wash and Acne Clear Leave-on Gel combo to keep pimples and oil away,” shares new Pond’s girl Sofia Andres. “I love how it helps my breakouts clear up a lot faster, too.”

For The Girlboss-In-Progress
Whether she’s climbing the corporate ladder or making waves as a successful millennial, this hardworking woman is eager to show the world what she’s got. She lives an on-the-go lifestyle and commutes constantly for work, leaving her skin vulnerable to the sun’s damaging rays and pollution.

KathrynHer Pond’s Solution: Just 10 minutes under the sun can trigger the toughest skin problems. That’s why NEW Pond’s White Beauty uses the all-new, patented ingredient called Vitamin B3+, which works by lessening the production of melanin that causes skin darkening, and preventing the melanin from surfacing. “I noticed that I started getting dark spots from old acne marks and from being under the sun,” reveals Pond’s girl Kathryn Bernardo. “To protect my skin, I started using Pond’s White Beauty since it has SPF that protects it on the outside, and Vitamin B3+ that whitens from the inside. Using it twice daily really helped me get a rosy, white glow.”

For The Empowered Woman
Years of experience—including triumphs and failures—have allowed her to know who she is and what she wants. She’s found her stride and now she’s working on letting go of her anxiety and stress, so she can enjoy her time with the ones who matter.

Toni Gonzaga for Pond'sHer Pond’s Solution: NEW Pond’s Age Miracle helps reduce worry lines, wrinkles, skin sagging, and age spots. A Year After My PRK Surgery

It's been a year since I had my PRK surgery. I remember it as if it only happened last week. Not that it was traumatic or anything like that. But the surgery pretty much changed my life.

Before the surgery, I experienced heavy migraine for years. I was even confined for heavy migraine. It hurt that much. My neurologist said my head was fine and the only finding was heavy migraine (well, apart from being dehydrated). I always pretty much depended on meds that temporarily relieved my headache. Headache gone, dying liver.

My ophthalmologist had been telling me to consider Lasik eye surgery so I would have my 20/20 vision. I've been wearing contact lenses for almost 20 years and my eyes have slowly given up on them. My eyes have become allergic to contact lenses. It took me a year or so to muster the courage to have Lasik surgery. I mean, hello - to have our eyes lasered. It sounds scary no matter what. But yeh, last year I found out my eyes are not even eligible for Lasik surgery so we opted to do PRK surgery. Believe me, I almost backed out on the day of the surgery. I was arguing with myself whether I could live my life wearing glasses or not.

Yes, I may have done the surgery primarily for cosmetic reasons. There are people who are eyeglasses wearer and they seem to be fine with it. Being able to see without remembering to put eyeglasses on is priceless. Waking up and not squinting to see the time on the clock, priceless. Most of all, my heavy migraine disappeared like a shadow in the night. Not only did I save on eyeglasses and eye check up. I also saved on meds and the hassle of having a migraine. To be able to see the world literally clearer without eyeglasses is definitely something else.

My recovery period with my PRK surgery may not have been instant. It took me about 3 months before I got my 20/20 vision. Actually, make that 20/15 vision. It was that clear - caveat that I'm looking at high contrasting images. My eyeballs have gone back to its normal state. The last time I had my eyes checked was last September and my vision was still at 20/15. Lately, I have been having blurry visions but not that blurry. I've just been so used to having clear vision these past months. I haven't gone back for another check up as I think this blurry vision is due to preggy hormones. I'll have my eyes checked again after.

Oh, btw, the photo collage above shows one of my latest photo almost a year after PRK. The (bottom) photo is one of my last photos before I had the surgery.

PRK is worth the investment. If you have blurry vision and wear eyeglasses and it's really bothering you, I recommend going to an ophthalmologist to check eye surgery options that would fit you.

Maybelline invites girls to #PowderYourPout
launches Kelsey Merritt as the latest addition to its roster of Maybelline girls

Manila, 2017 – While many makeup junkies are still head over heels for matte lipsticks, they are more than familiar with how their favorite mattes may feel dry and heavy on their lips.   Girl, fret no more! Gone are the days of dry and heavy matte lipsticks as we welcome Maybelline New York’s first ever lightweight mattes, The Powder Mattes by Color Sensational from Maybelline New York.

“The Powder Mattes collection is really the first-of-its-kind! Two:  Maybelline Introduces the Brand’s Latest Endorser with the Perfect Pout

With the launch of Powder Mattes, Maybelline New York introduces its newest brand endorser, Kelsey Merritt.

Just as Maybelline empowers women to explore new looks and flaunt their own creativity and individuality, Kelsey is the brand’s perfect endorser.  One of the country’s up and coming models signed on to Wilhelmina Models, one of the biggest global modeling agencies,  Kelsey is today  booked with casting calls from all over the globe.   She has worked hard to pursue her modeling dreams and make it in the business.

“We’re really excited to work with Kelsey Merritt this year as our newest Maybelline girl especially because she truly exhibits what a Maybelline girl is – someone who makes it happen,” says Cary Co, Marketing Manager for Maybelline New York. “With Liza Soberano who endorses our Face and Eyes products, Kelsey will be our lead endorser for Lips.”

This will not be the first time that Kelsey works with Maybelline New York. A year ago, she was given the opportunity to shoot a Maybelline commercial alongside the ultimate Maybelline girl, Gigi Hadid, in New York City. Given the fact that they shot it in the middle of winter wearing thin clothing, the young model chose to see the experience as a blessing.   The life of a model, after all, is a challenging one.  She tells of calls received in the wee hours of the morning to notify her that her flight to her next shoot location leaves in a few hours; the relentless demands of the modeling industry; and the constant struggle to balance her schedule between University studies and work. By staying true to herself, she has managed to embrace the life she has chosen.

“The industry I’m in brings me challenging surprises. I find myself writing my school paper on the plane, and packing my stuff at a moment’s notice to jump on a plane. It can really be unpredictable but that’s what makes it exciting,” she says. “Though I’ve worked with Gigi Hadid on a commercial for Maybelline, it never crossed my mind that I might one day actually become a Maybelline girl. Debunking Baby Sleep Myths*

Manila, February 2017 – Sleep has always been one of the biggest concerns for first-time parents. We witness first-hand the effects of what a missed nap or a delayed bedtime can do to our babies, and with so much information to process, we can’t blame ourselves if we get caught up in bedtime myths.

Here are a few common bedtime myths that you may not have known could be solved by trouble-free remedies.

1. “My baby is just a poor sleeper. There’s nothing I can do about it.”
There is no such thing as a ‘poor sleeper’. The trick is to help your baby get more familiar with bedtime. According to several sleep experts, one of the most effective ways is by establishing a bedtime routine.

JOHNSON'S®: recently came out with the first scientifically-proven bedtime routine, which consists of three simple steps: Bath, Massage, and Quiet Time. When used with the official line of Bedtime™ products—made with NATURALCALM™ aromas and a NO MORE TEARS® Mildness® formula—it guarantees your baby an additional one hour of sleep, after just seven days.

2. “Babies wake because they are breast fed.”
Plenty of factors could affect a baby’s sudden waking in the night—it could be caused by a genetic predisposition, developmental age, environment, or even a previously introduced sleep habits.

Avoid feeding and rocking your baby before putting him/her to sleep because this may also enforce an unnecessary habit that he/she may carry with him/her when growing up.

3. “If I get my baby tired enough, she’ll be able to sleep through the night.”
Babies actually benefit from sleep more than we think, so it’s important that we don’t deprive them of these by trying to desperately get them to sleep.

According to Dr. Agnes Tirona-Remulla, ENT-Head and Neck Specialist, who sub-specializes in Sleep Medicine and Surgery, babies gain three things from sleep: physical, emotional, and cognitive development—stronger immune system, proper weight regulation, improved social skills and mother-child interaction, enhanced learning and memory.

4. “Don’t give your baby a bath at night! He’ll catch a cold.”
This is probably one of the most common bedtime myths Filipino moms hear; but contrary to what our elders say, giving our babies a bath in the evening is actually a good way of preparing them for sleep.

The warm bath loosens up their muscles and helps them relax, signaling them that it’s almost time to go off to dream land.

5. “I’ll wait until my baby is a toddler to help him sleep better.”
It’s no easy task to teach your baby how to sleep, so why delay it when you can start early? As Dr. Remulla said, the best thing about establishing a bedtime routine is that it instills good sleeping habits, as well, as a good sleep schedule. This in turn, guarantees both you and your child a longer, more restful slumber in the long-run.

I've been seeing this cheek and lip stains all over the internet since last year. I was curious of course especially since I started with cheek and lip tints. Remember Bench lip tint and Benetint?

So, when I finally got a hold of these cheek and lip tints, I tried them on immediately.

KJM Cosmetics Cheek and Lip Stain

And quite honestly, I do not know what to feel about this product.

Things to Note When You Avail of Free International Shipping from Online Stores Abroad

Remember my Colourpop Lippie Stix post two years ago? I got a lot of private messages asking me how I managed to have those lippie stix delivered to my home address as they didn't offer international shipping back then. My only trick then was having the items delivered to our home address in California then brought it back with us to Manila.

But last year, Colourpop began offering free international shipping! I was tempted to order and try their international shipping but the thought of dealing with Customs, their absurd additional taxes , and the emotional roller coaster of thinking whether the package got lost in transit made me dismiss the idea.

BUUUUUUT! I couldn't resist the Black Friday sale. So I gave in. I cancelled my trip to the US this year for medical reasons so there is really no other way for me but to try they international shipping. Bahala na in dealing with the local post office and Customs.

DISCLAIMER: everything is based from my experience with International Shipping so please spare me your hanash if your experience is different from mine.
