Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks

In case I haven't stressed it enough on this blog, I'm a sucker for matte lipsticks. It's really my preference of lipstick texture.

My favourite drugstore brand, Maybelline New York, released their creamy matte lipsticks last year in the states. I was cynical at first to try it because the brand is never known for matte - 98% of their lipsticks has a moisturising texture no matter what.

But the word 'matte' kept haunting me and before I know it, I already have 8 tubes from this creamy matte line.

Maybelline Creamy Matte lipsticks have 20 shade to choose from [if I'm not mistaken]. They initially released 10 shades then released another 10 for the Summer collection.

I love the variety of their shades, too. From nudes to mauve to fuchsia to deep reds. There is a shade for everyone. I was tempted to get the purplish and shocking pink shades but I wouldn't be able to use them anyway so I decided to stick with my usual shades.

Lust for Blush, Blushing Pout, Divine Wine, Burgundy Blush

Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks
Nude Embrace on my lips

Nude Embrace is the lightest shade in this range. It has a subtle hint of brown that gives your lips that natural looking shade. I can't say it's my-lips-but-better shade but it even outs the shade of my lips and I like it. This is perfect for a smokey eye look but if you don't mind looking pale [like I do], this is a great everyday lipstick, too.

Daringly Nude on my lips

Daringly Nude is the second lightest shade in this range. It has a hint of peach/coral and reminds me of WnW's Bare It All. My daily look [when I'm wearing makeup] is a subtle smokey eye look because of my hooded lids, this is why this kind of shade works well for me. It also works well for a barely there makeup look or even when you're not wearing makeup at all [like I am on the photo].

Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks
Clay Crush on my lips.

Clay Crush is a shade I can't describe. Haha. It's the third latest shade in this range but it definitely has color. When I was googling the shades, Clay Crush seemed to be more orange on the swatches. Truth be told, it didn't look appealing to me then and I just bought this for blogging purposes. But hey, as it turns out, I really love how this looks on my lips. MLBB shade? Now, we're talking.

Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks
Touch of Spice on my lips

Touch of Spice is the bestseller shade in this range. All the posts I've read and videos I've seen about Creamy Mattes were raving about this shade. I liked it on them but for some reason, the shade translates differently on my lips. Like it didn't meet my expectation. It's a brownish red shade that you can definitely wear both day and night. Personally, I'd wear this during day time as I find this too light for a night out look.

Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks
Lust for Blush on my lips

Lust for Blush is another shade I wasn't expecting to like. This is actually my mom's lipstick because I can't pull off pink lips to save my life. But this one looks nice on me, I think. It's a carnation pink shade that doesn't wash out your face even if it's on the lighter spectrum of color. So, pink lipstick lovers, you must get this shade!

Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks
Blushing Pout on my lips

Blushing Pout is a baby pink shade with a hint of lavender. It might not be obvious on the photo but it's a bit neon in real life. Why does Maybelline create shades like this? Haha. It's close to MAC Saint Germain and NYX's Strawberry Milk. Well, Blushing Pout is the tamed version. Youngins can pull off this shade for sure.

Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks
Divine Wine on my lips.

Divine Wine on my lips.

Divine Wine is another favourite in this range. This was the first dark shade in this range until they released new ones for Summer. I'm usually drawn to dark lipsticks even when I don't wear them on a regular basis. This is a reddish plum shade that reminds me of Colourpop's LBB Lippie Stix. I was expecting this to be darker though because the swatches online seemed dark and vampy enough. This is totally wearable during day time even for the faint-hearted.

Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks
Burgundy Blush on my lips.

Burgundy Blush on my lips.

Burgundy Blush is the darkest shade in this range. It's the vampiest shade so if you're looking for just that, do not even think twice of getting this for yourself. It's a deep burgundy shade - two notches darker than Colourpop's Creature Lippie Stix. Believe it or not, this has a purple undertone that you will notice one you remove the lipstick with a tissue makeup remover. Hands down, I love this shade so much but its patchiness kills it for me. I had difficulty making this shade even on my lips - as you can see on the photos.

Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks

Maybelline wasn't kidding when they named this Creamy Matte. Unlike your usual matte lipsticks, Creamy Matte is truly creamy and does not tug at all. That sounds good news because it is but it's also a con because it means that these lipsticks are softer than a usual matte lipstick. Don't be surprised if it starts to melt a little with this tropical heat. Nonetheless, it dries matte but leave your lips soft.

Pigmentation wise, one swipe is decent enough. It's impressive. You can even dab the darker shades and still get a very good pigmentation. Regardless its pigmentation though, wear time is around 6 hours max. It fades and leaves a good tint on your lips. For the darker shades though, I suggest you retouch because it leaves you that I-only-lined-my-lips lips.

Maybelline Creamy Matte lipstick retails for USD7.99 or PhP399 here in Manila. I've already seen this here at PCX in Powerplant Mall but they only had one shade available which is Faint for Fuchsia. Not sure if all 20 shades will be available here as there's no official announcement yet that's it's already been released. Make sure you follow Maybelline Philippines on social media for updates!
