When I was a makeup noob, getting to try Chanel was like a dream come true to me. I used to take this brand for granted because I thought that you were just paying for the brand. Sometimes, I still think that. But when I broadened my view on makeup and realised why expensive makeup is expensive, I gave in and closed my eyes, gave my credit card to Chanel's SA in their Elements branch and left as fast as I could so that I wouldn't be even more tempted to add another product on my purchase.
Just to be clear, I didn't buy these foundations in one go. I had Vitalumière Aqua first. The one on the photo is already my third bottle. I got Perfection Lumière Velvet last year, a month after it was officially launched.
I know what you're going to ask me now. Which one is better?
From what I know, these foundations are water-based. Since this is water-based, rest assured that feels light on your face no matter how many layers you apply on your skin. You have to shake this a few times before using so you won't be wasting any product. If you don't shake this, you'll see the 'chemicals' separating.
Here are the swatches of Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet (left) & Chanel Vitalumière Aqua (right). I have the shade 30 Beige. I find it a bit confusing why Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet is a bit darker than Chanel Vitalumière Aqua.

Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet & Chanel Vitalumière Aqua are very hard to tell. The latter is just lighter on my face but it doesn't give me a white cast like what most lighter shade of foundations do to my face. I love how they both give me a natural look. My face but better type of foundation. This dries demo-matte so you don't have to worry if you forget to set it with powder (unless you have very oil skin). There are times that I don't set this with powder and it still looks good on my face just like the photos above. You can use a foundation brush or fingers when applying this. I usually use my fingers and it never gets streaky. It dries at the right time, too. However, I don't recommend using this if you have a lot of zits of dark spots. No matter how you much you layer on, this will still give you a better version of your skin but not totally covering up blemishes. Best to apply concealer. I apply concealer once in a while. Although there are times that I let my zits peek a little because I don't like looking too made up.
A lot of people said that Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet & Chanel Vitalumière Aqua are comparable to Koh Gen Do's Aqua Foundation. As of the moment, I can't find my Koh Gen Do foundation but from what I remember, it is way watery than Chanel. Koh Gen Do also has a pump while Chanel has a nozzle making it easier to control the amount of product that goes out of the bottle. They are both lightweight but Chanel looks more natural on me. Chanel is also surprisingly a few hundreds cheaper! It also smells so good - smells like rose!
I got these Chanel foundations in Hong Kong for HKD440 each. In Duty Free, I think this is USD50. Not sure if they already increased their price. Yes, they are pricey and probably not even worthy to be used daily. But if you really like a lightweight foundation, you should definitely try this.
Follow me! No? Yes? Yey!
nice review..the price for such brand justifies the effect; natural..if only there is a local brand sporting same effect..
ReplyDeleteBut if you're considering Koh Gen Do (which is apparently more expensive; I realised lang while doing this post), eto na lang. Mas mura and mas natural looking :)
ReplyDeleteprob with local brands nga yun.. lalo na yung white cast.. meh!
ReplyDeleteyour face but better nga! it's so natural parang wala kang nilagay considering na foundation cya, parang BB cream effect lang? i like that kind of foundation, lightweight and wearable everyday. medyo pricey nga lang pero i don't mind to splurge a little every now and then :D parang ang sarap magka-own ng Channel! hehe *someday*
ReplyDeleteYup maganda talga sha :)
ReplyDeleteTapos parang mas nice sha when you don't set it with powder. Pricey lang talga kaya isang todo lambing ako sa mom ko para ibili ako ng ganto hahaha :)
ReplyDeleteLooks flawless! Tinutukan ko talaga face mo to see the difference. Pero grabe they look so natural on your face. Every woman's dream to have that chanel too. Hehe. If only all foundations are like that, super ang saya talaga. Wala ng "foundation day" na magcocomment sa mga girls dahil sa sobrang obvious na nakafoundation:)
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time spotting their difference. Basta bongga sila pareho! I hope I could try this one day. Lipstick lang ang na try ko sa Chanel brand eh. By the way, I agree with you, sometimes we let our zits show to avoid looking too made up especially if it's just an ordinary day and we're not going to a big event. It's also a good way let our skin breathe.
ReplyDeleteBeing a makeup newbie myself, I also am dreaming of owning cosmetics from Chanel kaso ang mahal! LOL. These two foundation sure looks worthy of their price tag coz you look so flawless, Miss Gem. Kahit di na ko maka-purchase muna nito, okay na rin coz nadagdagan na naman and knowledge ko about high-end cosmetics. Thanks Miss Gem! (^-^)
ReplyDeleteI am amazed that you look so natural here. Good job on Chanel because that's the point of wearing foundations or BBs - making the face flawless and not looking too made up as in cakey. I am currently imagining my future self shopping without looking at the price tag. #goals haha
ReplyDeletePricey talga kaya kinukulit ko mom ko na bugyan ako as pasalubong or gift :)
ReplyDeleteFuture goals :)
ReplyDeleteAng ganda ng result nakaka Flawless ng skin kahit one layer lang :) Galing! #ChanneLisAwesome
ReplyDeleteFlawless!! Surely the cost paid of with the quality of the product. I also love you hair color :)
