E.L.F. Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick in Movie Star and In The Nude

Jumbo lip pencils are not exactly a new trend of makeup.  However, I've been seeing different brands coming up with jumbo lip pencils.  I just don't get the hype.

I have a few of these jumbo lip pencils somewhere in my makeup stash and I hardly use them.  I don't know why though.

Then last week, I saw several new products from E.L.F. (or at least in my opinion they were released only recently since I haven't seen them on counters before).  The HD blush is finally available here in Manila (not just in online stores)!  BUT the jumbo lip pencils were the ones that caught my attention!

The first thing that came to my mind was, "Now, E.L.F.?  Really?"  I took one and checked the price.  Hmm, only PhP199.75 a pop.  Not bad.  I looked for the testers and swatched them all.  I immediately liked In the Nude.  From the swatch, it seems like the kind of nude that doesn't make me look pale.  I also got Movie Star since it's like a muted red that you can wear during daytime.  The shade is not too loud.

Nice colors, right?

Pros:
- affordable at PhP199.75
- locally available
- about 5-6 shades to choose from (not bad)
- easy to apply
- doesn't tug
- not that sticky for a gloss
- retractable! No need to sharpen!
- Movie Star has a minty feeling
- not to shiny for a gloss
- darker shades do not bleed

Cons:
- packaging is flimsy (for me)
- some shades appear differently when applied on the lips
- this only costs USD2.00 in the States
- short staying power
- not too shiny for a gloss (if you're looking for a shiny one)
- not too pigmented
- lighter shades set on lip lines

In The Nude looks better in person.  It doesn't make me look dead or pale so it beats me why I look pale on the picture.  However, it's still best paired with smokey eyes.  You can wear it daily if you prefer to look pale.  I gotta admit, I like looking pale at times!  However, the color easily fades the moment you lips touch something (like if you eat or drink). So, be prepared to retouch more than once! As for Movie Star, I was expecting it to be as dark on my lips as it is when swatched.  However, I still liked how it looks on my lips.  It's like you know I have something on my lips but the shade is actually bearable during daytime and at work!  This one doesn't fade entirely when you eat or drink.  It leaves a just bitten stain on your lips which I like - a lot!  It's entirely a different thing when you apply it on your lips than when you swatch it.  If you're looking for pigmented ones, skip this product because they're not that pigmented.

One thing what weirds me out though is the fact that it's a gloss.  It seems more like a moisturizing lipstick to me.  I have glosses and they are all shiny!  So this ELF Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick is something new to me cos it lacks gloss!  Weird enough, I actually like that it isn't glossy!

E.L.F. Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick is nice to have but I'm not sure if I want to buy all colors.  Knowing myself, I'd probably go back to using the usual lipstick.  But hey, let's see how long I'll like this stick!

Let me know if you've tried this product!
