Review: NYX Cosmetics Round Lipstick

Warning: this entry is picture heavy.

It's another long rainy weekend here in Manila. But we all have our makeup to keep us sane. Hehe. As for me, I have a dozen of Nyx round lipsticks to play with.

Pros:
- creamy texture
- easy to apply
- pigmented
- non-drying
- nice packaging since you can see the shade at the bottom
- wide range of shades

Cons:
- overpriced here in MNL; ranges from php200-250 from online sellers
- poor lasting power; you need to retouch every hour or so

Verdict: 4 out of 5

I think I'm pretty lucky that most of the shades I got are matte and really wearable. The texture of the Nyx round lipstick is quite the same as Shu Uemura's matte variant and MAC's amplified creme (at least with the Nyx lipsticks that I have) because of its creaminess. I would've said it's similar to MAC's frost and satin variants but Nyx doesn't dry on my lips nor does it give me this feeling like they're settling on the lines of my lips or the shades start to form into groups on my lips. MAC's frost and satin variants do that on my lips. Nyx stays put on your lips.. but disappears like a bubble in a jiffy. They are also pigmented except for Harmonica and Pumpkin Pie since they are sheer IMO. The color is buildable though so no need to worry. The lipsticks have a nice scent. It's not as good as the vanilla scent of MAC but the scent is not bad either.

My current faves are Circe, Perfect, and Strawberry Milk.
By the way, I'm acidic. So, the shades may appear slightly differently on your lips. My lips are really reddish pink so I have to apply lipsticks at least twice on my lips for the color to appear.

I'll do a review on the colors eventually. As for the Nyx round lipsticks, in general, I say you go ahead and get yourself a tube or two. It retails for about 1-3USD. It doesn't hurt to splurge on this. Retouching is forgivable. That is is you don't mind retouching your lipstick every now and then. It is also advisable to use Nyx lipsticks during shoots cos eventho it fades fast, you won't feel bad re-applying lipstick since it's cheap. That's what happened to me.

I'm putting my other lipsticks to rest and use up all these Nyx lipsticks first.

I really love NYX lipsticks. I actually have most of the colors you have too. My favorites are indian pink and pumpkin pie. So pretty and really wearable.

that's a lot of lippies Gem! My faves are Lousiana, Tea rose and Chaos. I wanna try Fig and rose.. I tried Thalia and I look like a Corpse haha

helo sis... really nice swatches of the nyx round lippies here... im partial to pinkish shades (or at least those with a pink tinge) which explains why i have tea rose, fig, thalia and lousiana and yes, i love them too.

nyx is available in white gold, one of the dept. stores in cebu and they are cheaper there. round lippies are php 100 a pop, lip glosses php 150, eyeshadow trio php 250. however, there inventory is limited lng.

@ Khymm: Yeh, Fig is nice tlaga. Tea Rose is ok. I'm still learning to like it. But I think everyone likes that color. Talga, you look like a corpse wearing Thalia? That color confuses me. It looks pink to me haha!

Are you from Cebu? Khymm told me that it's available in White Gold for a way cheaper price. But I'm not from there. Boohoo. So I can't enjoy the low prices the offer for Nyx. But I'm going to Cebu for Sinulog and I'm gon make sure I'll drop by White Gold to hoard Nyx products! Thanks for the info :)

thanks for the swatches! i've always been curious about thalia so this has really been helpful. i still only have one Nyx lipstick to date (Pumpkin Pie) but i want to buy more, of course!

Buy your Nyx lipsticks from carefreeshopper.multiply.com or digitaltraincase.multiply.com. They sell the lipstick for P180, but GirlTalkers get P20 off per tube at Carefree Shopper. I just bought two Nyx lipsticks from her and I love them! I think I'm buying all my lipstick from her from now on. She has more coming in March. :)

Hi! I got my NYX lipsticks from Radium http://radiumonline.multiply.com for P160 each. Sometimes, they have on hand stocks available on their facebook. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a couple weeks to a month depending on when you order because they have cut-off dates for pre-orders. They also have other NYX products. :)

I like the Fig,Just as always when i'm commenting i'm asking questions hihi sarrry..Do you apply lipbalm po ba before applying lipstick?Just want to know. =)
